Do I want something?

"Every act you have ever performed since the day you were born was performed because you wanted something‟ [ANDREW CARNEGIE]

Being the second and only girl in the family gave me a sense of privilege. I was a spoiled brat as I grew up but then as I started getting older I became mature and accomplished task in order to get what I want.

When I was younger, I would do devious task. I was called a Habladora- meaning whatever I heard from adult conversations I would repeat them. And when the adults would tell me not to say it I would say it and in return to keep quiet I would get a toy. Much times have changed and I've learned the hard way to keep my mouth shut and be respectful of others.

I know myself if I do something that's because I want something in return. I can be extremely OCD if my dorm room isn't clean. And I pester my roommate to clean her side that way our room looks spotless. I am outspoken, I say what is on my mind in other words blunt. I don't care what people think of my bluntness. If I want something I work hard for it.

My academics are most important to me and I don't care pulling all-nighters just to get the grade I deserve. I don't settle for B+ I want A+ I strive for the best possible. I want to achieve it because I know I can. I like to get good grades because I work hard.

In life you have to act a certain way to make choices. I took a risk into coming to USF and I'm glad I'm here because I'm making a difference. I want to achieve and my long life ambition is to fulfill my dream. And if I have to act heartless, mean, cold, friendly, nice or etc I know I'm up for it because I care and I was born to do this task I want and need.

Imagine

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

- John Lennon

Imagine if just for one day the world will turn into peace and harmony. Society today is full of hate, oppression and mistrust. No one feels safe because of the riots and cruelty and the WAR. The war has segregated the world because of one reason- power. Power, dominance and treachery in order to obtain something that is just its just a desire not a need. Why can the world just get along. The reason behind it is because people are afraid of change, they don't adapt to change because is frightens them. What's worse is people not accepting change. Change is good when there are hard times.

Imagine in a world that everyone is equal, no fear, no rejection just harmony and peace. Imagine just being able to express yourself without someone holding you back or sending you to jail. Imagine just accepting others and you accepting yourself. Imagine being different and society praises you. Imagine a world without war and danger just peace and harmony. How about a Utopia? That's the kind of place everyone would want to live in. Being able to breathe without the constant fear.

Come together as one. Join the fight for equality and peace. Let's all live under one sky in harmony. How hard is that? I hope one day you can accept other and learn to live in peace. If we all come to a consensus and value others maybe one day you will join us.

Summer Term is DONE!

This summer has been a world wind. College during the summer is the toughest. I am proud to say that I have achieved good grades for this summer. This summer term I had to take three classes that were longer than two hours. My classes are as follows: Public Speaking, Sexual Health Decision Making and Composition.

My older brother, Nardo, being a sophomore at USF, gave me advice and told me that Composition was going to be a challenge. My first week at college was smooth, I was just frustrated on how much work I was going to be doing. The thing about summer term is condensing 14 weeks into six weeks! Yikes! But I knew I could handle anything if I set my mind to it. I at first wondered why do people drop out of college? Then I realized, the amount of work some people just loose motivation. My motivation is being "professional" and making a living for myself.

The classes that I've taken have all been rigorous in their own way. In Sex class, the Monday quizzes and the long lectures in the morning- which sometimes would lead to me falling asleep. Public Speaking, dealing with the speeches each week and Composition with paper after paper and not one day of no homework. These classes were easy to balance and it taught me how to grow as a person and do the easy homework first and work my way up.

Overall, college has taught me to be more responsible. I've changed an grown by being more straightforward and being myself.I think college teaches everyone to become independent but once in a while its okay to call back parents and ask for money. College isn't hard people can make it hard if they don't manage their time right. I hope to make these next four years the best time of my life and become the woman I was destined to be.

Why are face transplants more controversial than liver transplants?

Beauty is everything in this world. I find it hypocritical when society says its all about the personality not looks. Looks are everything, that's what matters to some people. The fashion, music, entrepreneur world focuses on these elements. I am a person that looks for personality. I go by the phrase that "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder". My boyfriend has an illness and I forget to judge his outside just inside.

On November 27,2005 a French-woman named Isabelle Dinoire was the first person in the world to receive a partial face transplant. This was medical news because face transplants were considered impossible to do. Transplanting the nose and the chin are difficult because of the amount of tissue needed. Another face transplant was a Spaniard named Oscar he unlike Isabelle has all his chin, nose, and mouth transplant. This is an advancement in technology; however, to this new foreign transplant is controversial.

The conflict has raised both medical and ethical concerns, and with experts weighing in on all sides of the issue, the controversy is still far from resolved. The main debate questions whether the benefits of a face transplant outweigh the many risks associated with the procedure.Transplant rejection is one of the main risks associated with face transplants. According to the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery and the American Society for Plastic Surgeons’ Facial Transplantation Guiding Principles, “It is estimated that 10 percent of facial transplant recipients will experience an episode of rejection within the first year, with a thirty to fifty percent rate in the second to the fifth year.”

The other reason is that getting used to a new identity. According to Isabelle Dinoire she has to get used to her new face. Also stem cells are being used to grow new tissues and bones for face transplants. The face transplants are more controversial than legalizing marijuana. The face transplants are also highly resourceful and needs more tissues from the donor and expensive. The negative side is also the tissue rejection. Isabelle Dinoire, has to take for her rest of her life immmusuppressants in order for her antibodies not to attack the foreign tissue.

Liver transplants is not as rigorous to obtain but not as controversial because face transplants the donors are harder to find and its more expensive. Liver transplant at first were considered unethical but over the years it has been accepted. Face transplants are more difficult to accept because of the stem cells used to grow new tissues.I believe that if people want to pay for the risky surgery in order to make themselves happy- I say Go For it!! But face transplants are too dangerous and life changing.

What Really Happened to Phoebe Prince?

Bullying is unacceptable, immoral, and unethical.Bullying can cause anyone constant chronic stress and low self-esteem. In the case of Phoebe Prince, bullying came to a new form which is cyber-bullying because it makes bullying more publicized. From reading this article I think that Phoebe bullies were mean girls that probably have parents that work for the school district.

Phoebe suicide probably produced a small chain reaction of grief and guilt throughout the school. In my previous blog I've stated that there are two types of evil in this world which are people who see evil acts and people who commit evil acts. In South Hadley High School, there is not consequences for bullying a student its only suspension. The high schools seems corrupted after the Phoebe death because no School Board administrator wants to discuss it. Bullying is worse committed act in schools that selling drugs in my opinion. I believe that anything that deals with a person's psyche is longer effecting than drugs. When a person has low self-esteem it leads to depression then chronic stress which turns into suicide. The human mind is the most powerful thing in the human body when its tempered with it can be deadly.

In Phoebe case, I get the sense of immigrating to a new country and adapting. According to the article, Phoebe had depression and her mother told the school of her problems. But as a former high school student, when a student has an illness or disability all of the teachers are aware of it and the staff members. I find it odd that none of Phoebe's teacher didn't do anything to help her out. A school is a community and within that community things are all seen and heard and for the faculty and staff to be aware of what's happening and not do anything about it is scary because you know a student is being injured and your not being a dutiful citizen.

In this case, the students that bullied Phoebe should be criminally prosecuted because its considered manslaughter. These teenagers would harass Phoebe physically and emotionally which led to her killing herself. It makes me wonder how these teenagers get away with deli quint acts in the school.

After reading this article the author does imply blame the victim, this is in which we as people judge the victim that its her fault. Phoebe wasn't at fault she was a bullied all the time and people made it sound that it was her depression that lead her to that. Bullying should be stopped when someone names call thats a sing of bullying. Bullying should be made illegal and have greater consequences. Suspensions are just vacations for the criminals. I'm glad a bill in New York has been passed to stop bullying this should be spread nationwide.

Why does the Truthfulness Matter?

“You can bend it and twist it... You can misuse and abuse it... But even God cannot change the Truth."

- Micheal Levy

The truth is the most important quality in a person. My upbringing was based on honesty, responsibility, integrity, and truth. The truth is how one perceives something.
Its our biased of the world. The truth hurts. In this world people don't like to acknowledge or accept the truth. The truth is the most powerful quality anyone could ever do or say. The truth describes who the person is and how the person acts.

I have always been known as a bitch. I take that as a compliment. I think people define me as this because I am very straight forward. I don't like when people act or say something wrong and I rather be honest and tell them their mistakes. I'm actually one of the fewest people in the world that like to be told the truth. I love it when a friend "calls me out" and explains the errors that I have committed. I think a true person would do anything to tell someone the mistakes they've committed in order to improve themselves.

I think honesty and truth matter- to me lot because lying builds up and leads to nothing. Lying or fibbing is not a good quality not even little lies. I think when someone lies it makes me feel guilt for the other person because they are being lied to and their vulnerable and are gullible and they believe the liars words.

Its said that life is unfair that nothing is easy. I believe that's true. In this world there is always going to be liars hurting everyone to achieve their way. Liars are part of this world but that way one learns to decipher who is honest and who isnt.

The truth is the beginning to a new chapter its a way to clean out the soul and heal the old wounds.

Does Teen Drug Rehab Cure Addiction or Create it?

Drugs. The word drugs has had a negative connotation for the last century. As I recall from watching in the Drug years of Marijuana in the History Channel, Marijuana is considered deadly. I am for Marijuana legalization. People believe that marijuana or pot is dangerous that its addiction and destroys brain cells; however, from my personal experience- all of my best friends smoke and they are geniuses- going to IV league schools. Many people have tried pot because it releases pain and its a relaxation.

Someone may oppose this article the majority of the audience would be families. Rehab has been shown by society that its for people who are weak and need help or else there going to die- which is true. But I think teen rehab is not a good choice to send addiction teenagers for help. I researched AA (Alcoholic Anonymous)the "12 steps". While browsing through this steps I feel this steps are overwhelming. When someone goes to rehab they have low self-esteem to point that could lead to suicide, and their couple of step is to admit your week. I find this 12 steps controversial.

My late uncle went to rehab because he was forced. The whole appeal of marijuana in the 1990's was not acceptance especially in a developing country. Marijuana was his "daily shower" without he couldn't do anything productive. From what I recall, his addiction -from a sic-year-old- it was like he was the same nothing changed. I know to this day, he relapsed and did smoke behind the whole family. He said that rehab changed his mind on how to live his life; for instance, have a family, be independent and have a good job. But he would occasionally smoke, but not that often. I don't think rehab is effective, family therapies and individual counseling are helpful.

Parents can have other options if their child is spiraling to drug addiction. I think confronting someone is the best way to go and family therapy. I also think it depends on the drug their using. If I ever have a child who gets Straight A's, honors, clubs, class president, athlete and smokes pot occasionally, I wouldn't have a problem. Its there stress reliever from all the commotion in the world. If parents do have a serious problem with it than they can send their child to Boot Camp to fix the behavioral problem but family therapy is better.

Peer pressure is the main reason behind teen therapy groups. Teenagers like to boast on what drugs they've used and show others the glamour behind drugs. Teen therapy groups create an urgency to try different drugs. That isn't effective. Family therapies are better because it makes the teenager realize that people care and not to feel "defeated".

My parents are very conservative and my older brother has followed into their footsteps, they are all scared of trying new things in other words open minded. I in the other hand, I'm very open minded- but I have limits. I don't condone extreme drug use or drinking. I like to be sober and have fun. Its not the end of the world if I don't smoke or drink.

People need to be careful who to surround with. My mom always tells me "Dime con quien tu andas y yo te dire quien eres". That means tell me who you hang out with and I will tell you who you are. If you hang out with potheads then you must be one- thats the way society and the media have brainwashed our minds to downside and fear drugs.s But there are drugs who are less harmful then drinking.
