Why are face transplants more controversial than liver transplants?

Beauty is everything in this world. I find it hypocritical when society says its all about the personality not looks. Looks are everything, that's what matters to some people. The fashion, music, entrepreneur world focuses on these elements. I am a person that looks for personality. I go by the phrase that "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder". My boyfriend has an illness and I forget to judge his outside just inside.

On November 27,2005 a French-woman named Isabelle Dinoire was the first person in the world to receive a partial face transplant. This was medical news because face transplants were considered impossible to do. Transplanting the nose and the chin are difficult because of the amount of tissue needed. Another face transplant was a Spaniard named Oscar he unlike Isabelle has all his chin, nose, and mouth transplant. This is an advancement in technology; however, to this new foreign transplant is controversial.

The conflict has raised both medical and ethical concerns, and with experts weighing in on all sides of the issue, the controversy is still far from resolved. The main debate questions whether the benefits of a face transplant outweigh the many risks associated with the procedure.Transplant rejection is one of the main risks associated with face transplants. According to the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery and the American Society for Plastic Surgeons’ Facial Transplantation Guiding Principles, “It is estimated that 10 percent of facial transplant recipients will experience an episode of rejection within the first year, with a thirty to fifty percent rate in the second to the fifth year.”

The other reason is that getting used to a new identity. According to Isabelle Dinoire she has to get used to her new face. Also stem cells are being used to grow new tissues and bones for face transplants. The face transplants are more controversial than legalizing marijuana. The face transplants are also highly resourceful and needs more tissues from the donor and expensive. The negative side is also the tissue rejection. Isabelle Dinoire, has to take for her rest of her life immmusuppressants in order for her antibodies not to attack the foreign tissue.

Liver transplants is not as rigorous to obtain but not as controversial because face transplants the donors are harder to find and its more expensive. Liver transplant at first were considered unethical but over the years it has been accepted. Face transplants are more difficult to accept because of the stem cells used to grow new tissues.I believe that if people want to pay for the risky surgery in order to make themselves happy- I say Go For it!! But face transplants are too dangerous and life changing.

What Really Happened to Phoebe Prince?

Bullying is unacceptable, immoral, and unethical.Bullying can cause anyone constant chronic stress and low self-esteem. In the case of Phoebe Prince, bullying came to a new form which is cyber-bullying because it makes bullying more publicized. From reading this article I think that Phoebe bullies were mean girls that probably have parents that work for the school district.

Phoebe suicide probably produced a small chain reaction of grief and guilt throughout the school. In my previous blog I've stated that there are two types of evil in this world which are people who see evil acts and people who commit evil acts. In South Hadley High School, there is not consequences for bullying a student its only suspension. The high schools seems corrupted after the Phoebe death because no School Board administrator wants to discuss it. Bullying is worse committed act in schools that selling drugs in my opinion. I believe that anything that deals with a person's psyche is longer effecting than drugs. When a person has low self-esteem it leads to depression then chronic stress which turns into suicide. The human mind is the most powerful thing in the human body when its tempered with it can be deadly.

In Phoebe case, I get the sense of immigrating to a new country and adapting. According to the article, Phoebe had depression and her mother told the school of her problems. But as a former high school student, when a student has an illness or disability all of the teachers are aware of it and the staff members. I find it odd that none of Phoebe's teacher didn't do anything to help her out. A school is a community and within that community things are all seen and heard and for the faculty and staff to be aware of what's happening and not do anything about it is scary because you know a student is being injured and your not being a dutiful citizen.

In this case, the students that bullied Phoebe should be criminally prosecuted because its considered manslaughter. These teenagers would harass Phoebe physically and emotionally which led to her killing herself. It makes me wonder how these teenagers get away with deli quint acts in the school.

After reading this article the author does imply blame the victim, this is in which we as people judge the victim that its her fault. Phoebe wasn't at fault she was a bullied all the time and people made it sound that it was her depression that lead her to that. Bullying should be stopped when someone names call thats a sing of bullying. Bullying should be made illegal and have greater consequences. Suspensions are just vacations for the criminals. I'm glad a bill in New York has been passed to stop bullying this should be spread nationwide.

Why does the Truthfulness Matter?

“You can bend it and twist it... You can misuse and abuse it... But even God cannot change the Truth."

- Micheal Levy

The truth is the most important quality in a person. My upbringing was based on honesty, responsibility, integrity, and truth. The truth is how one perceives something.
Its our biased of the world. The truth hurts. In this world people don't like to acknowledge or accept the truth. The truth is the most powerful quality anyone could ever do or say. The truth describes who the person is and how the person acts.

I have always been known as a bitch. I take that as a compliment. I think people define me as this because I am very straight forward. I don't like when people act or say something wrong and I rather be honest and tell them their mistakes. I'm actually one of the fewest people in the world that like to be told the truth. I love it when a friend "calls me out" and explains the errors that I have committed. I think a true person would do anything to tell someone the mistakes they've committed in order to improve themselves.

I think honesty and truth matter- to me lot because lying builds up and leads to nothing. Lying or fibbing is not a good quality not even little lies. I think when someone lies it makes me feel guilt for the other person because they are being lied to and their vulnerable and are gullible and they believe the liars words.

Its said that life is unfair that nothing is easy. I believe that's true. In this world there is always going to be liars hurting everyone to achieve their way. Liars are part of this world but that way one learns to decipher who is honest and who isnt.

The truth is the beginning to a new chapter its a way to clean out the soul and heal the old wounds.

Does Teen Drug Rehab Cure Addiction or Create it?

Drugs. The word drugs has had a negative connotation for the last century. As I recall from watching in the Drug years of Marijuana in the History Channel, Marijuana is considered deadly. I am for Marijuana legalization. People believe that marijuana or pot is dangerous that its addiction and destroys brain cells; however, from my personal experience- all of my best friends smoke and they are geniuses- going to IV league schools. Many people have tried pot because it releases pain and its a relaxation.

Someone may oppose this article the majority of the audience would be families. Rehab has been shown by society that its for people who are weak and need help or else there going to die- which is true. But I think teen rehab is not a good choice to send addiction teenagers for help. I researched AA (Alcoholic Anonymous)the "12 steps". While browsing through this steps I feel this steps are overwhelming. When someone goes to rehab they have low self-esteem to point that could lead to suicide, and their couple of step is to admit your week. I find this 12 steps controversial.

My late uncle went to rehab because he was forced. The whole appeal of marijuana in the 1990's was not acceptance especially in a developing country. Marijuana was his "daily shower" without he couldn't do anything productive. From what I recall, his addiction -from a sic-year-old- it was like he was the same nothing changed. I know to this day, he relapsed and did smoke behind the whole family. He said that rehab changed his mind on how to live his life; for instance, have a family, be independent and have a good job. But he would occasionally smoke, but not that often. I don't think rehab is effective, family therapies and individual counseling are helpful.

Parents can have other options if their child is spiraling to drug addiction. I think confronting someone is the best way to go and family therapy. I also think it depends on the drug their using. If I ever have a child who gets Straight A's, honors, clubs, class president, athlete and smokes pot occasionally, I wouldn't have a problem. Its there stress reliever from all the commotion in the world. If parents do have a serious problem with it than they can send their child to Boot Camp to fix the behavioral problem but family therapy is better.

Peer pressure is the main reason behind teen therapy groups. Teenagers like to boast on what drugs they've used and show others the glamour behind drugs. Teen therapy groups create an urgency to try different drugs. That isn't effective. Family therapies are better because it makes the teenager realize that people care and not to feel "defeated".

My parents are very conservative and my older brother has followed into their footsteps, they are all scared of trying new things in other words open minded. I in the other hand, I'm very open minded- but I have limits. I don't condone extreme drug use or drinking. I like to be sober and have fun. Its not the end of the world if I don't smoke or drink.

People need to be careful who to surround with. My mom always tells me "Dime con quien tu andas y yo te dire quien eres". That means tell me who you hang out with and I will tell you who you are. If you hang out with potheads then you must be one- thats the way society and the media have brainwashed our minds to downside and fear drugs.s But there are drugs who are less harmful then drinking.

I don't know how to put in words....

" The Dice of God are always loaded" - Emerson

Emerson. I have no idea who he is but I'm sure he was a world re noun author. When I think of God, I think wrath, happiness, apprehension and forgiveness. In the earlier edition of the Bible God banished Adam and Eve for being sinners and flooded the Earth for 40 days/nights. Now as centuries progressed, and the conquistadors came to the New World, religion was not a chore it was a way of living... Centuries pass and people worship still because of their beliefs. I think religion is the only excuse we have for war.. I think if everyone did believe in God we would be all good.. But there are different types of religion.

In the Hindu religion they believe in Karma. Karma is the effects of a person's actions that determine his destiny in his next incarnation. I'm a believer of Karma although, I'm not an active Roman Catholic.Ever since I could speak, my family would tell me "Life is Always UNFAIR". Its true. Life gives everyone situations that one never expects to be in.

This quote of Emerson, I can relate too. He means that God has always a dice. Now a dice, its a symbol of luck- either good or bad. God according to Emerson is always ready to give anyone either luck in their life or horrible events.I've been in situations where everything seemed picture perfect until tragedy arises.

I believe that as soon as we are born are destinies are already chosen. Most people believe that you create your own destiny I disagree. Our destiny is already chosen by God and since he has the "dice loaded" sometimes God gives us good destinies or bad ones. Because that is what he decided. You cant runaway from what you are. Just be prepared for the better or the worst.

A Fat tax?!!

Since I am from Peru, a poor country, an abundance of food is better than Christmas gift. I grew up in Peru in an upper class, I was fortunate enough to have enough food to stay alive. Sometimes when I see the "Christian World Hunger Fund" I reminisce on the rural areas of Peru and witness malnourished children not even five begging for food while the upper class feasted. I remember when my great-grandmother came to Florida to visit she looked at me and my brother and say you guys are too fat. Now being a girl I was offended at first and went to my mother to tell her what grandma bluntness was about.

My mom said that in any developing country the ones who are skinny are malnourished and can't afford food, the ones who are big and voluptuous are wealthy and have money to eat. Now being in America being overweight is a negative image. Sine I've moved here, the American lifestyle is all about "who cares?" I disagree, one might say they care what other people think but they do in the inside care.

With this said, the fat tax should be imposed. Well come on think about it? The number of people who stopped smoking from the 1980's has decreased with all those public health advertisement and the heavy tax on cigarettes. Cigarettes took a while for people to realize it was an endangerment to health.

Society needs a wake up call. The only way society is going to stop eating junk foods is for them going broke. I heard that in New Zealand in order to move in to the country one must not be overweight- meaning a specific weight size. Although that sounds like it is violating human rights, it inst because its a way for an imperfect gene pool to be in the whole pool. Now that might sound harsh, but I wouldn't like to be surrounded by fatties all the time, cause then I will feel the pressure to become fat. In Africa in Sudan they make young girls fat... Now this is due to cultural reasons. Parents send their daughters to a fat camp not for them to loose weight but to gain more than 100 pounds, its in their culture that men admire bigger women.

Don't get me wrong, women who have curves is great! But there is a limit to everything. I like to fatty food every now and then but my result of eating that is massive acne. That's my way of having self control. If the government does impose Fat tax, it would give America as a whole what to eat better and be conscious. I think the first step is for the wallet to be going broke and then its a wake up call.

America needs to get that fat tax- eat what you want just be conscious of what one is doing. One can do whatever they like however the consequences can be deadly. I'm glad that I have enough food to keep me alive. I eat because I want to live, I don't live to eat.

From where does a sense of community come?

In biological terms, a community is a group of interacting organism or species sharing an environment. As a science student, community has different levels of interaction. But what does that mean, you ask? I define this by asking what makes up a community and its levels?

A Community has to interact. How? Well there are the neighbors, town-hall meetings and being a volunteer. Now all though these qualities make a community. The question is when does a community come together? Majority would think of a tragedy or an accident or a concern.

I believe a community comes together when there is a need too. September 11th was a devastation and it made America look weak at the knees. The powerful country has been defeated- some thoughts however. Little by little people united of all races and begin to contribute to support the victims of that tragedy. Since 9/11 people have become less trustworthy of other due to the fear of terrorism. Everyone is paranoid of another possible attack- but the question still remains where does community form?

To be honest, community only comes when people need it. Its insulting to say it but true. The massacre of the student in Columbine was horrifying but it made the town come together however watchful of others. Isn't America insecure in a way? To me its always someone suing someone- for inconsiderate reasons.

The only way a community can come is to be one before any tragedy comes about. That's the only time you hear the community "come together" but I didn't include the Holidays. I think a community is just people interacting with each other everyday; for example, sally waving to her neighbor. Community could be close however underneath that trust there is alway idiots who screw it up.

Communities are hard to build and stay on top. However community reunites together when there is hope and need of acceptance. We've all made mistakes, but once a community is broken the mistake will be luring.

Health Ills Abound as Farm Runoff Fouls Wells

I would like to start of saying, "Isn't Wisconsin land of the cheese?" But apparently its land of POOP!! Its grotesque how ignorance is a common trait in Brown county. The United States has had controversial environmental policies and actions since the early 1970's. Those who are not familiar with Love Canal: toxic waste was buried underneath a whole town hence radiation and Environmental policies.

This article doesn't surprise me how agriculture is the main source behind pollution. Since Wisconsin has a lot of lobbyist in Washington, their environmental policies are more lenient. Florida has had several pollution scandals- the excess phosphorus levels in the Everglades. Florida became a leader and started slowly restoring the Everglades. In Wisconsin case, once the water table is contaminated its more expensive and difficult to return it back to normal.

The only solution to the excess manure would be to have certain cows per acre. Let's say there is 100 acres and 500 cows that equals more than 100,000 pounds of manure. That much manure could seep into the earth and slowly travel to wells. Another alternative would be for each farm to be measure regulatory on its level of toxicity based on runoffs- this is a common method practiced in Florida Agriculture.

Anyone could take action. But the only person who could lead the change would be the ordinary farmer or an ill victim. I think the whole county is being corrupted by the head farmer. I believe there is two types of evil in this world: 1) People who do evil stuff 2) People who witness evil acts. Brown county is witnessing corruption and atrocious crimes. Wouldn't all the citizens have common sense to file a law suit against the state and reinforce the Clear Water Act?

I don't favor the government. I don't like either party. I think the government knows everything about us- government conspiracy. Ever since the Cuban Missile Crisis, Nixon impeachment and Vietnam I don't believe in any politicians promises or act of kindness. Brown county officials are corrupted and not taken action to aid its fellow citizens. The Wisconsin local Environmental Protection Agency should be handling the manure seriously because it could slowly turn into a pandemic. Just think about it? Wisconsin is the number one state that produces dairy products- manure is not only disposed improperly but also used a fertilized but excess fertilizer.... Wouldn't the cow digest the grains that contain the same manure they made? :-/ Its the same cycle repeating, next the cows will start dying because of toxic levels.

The lobbying groups in Washington aren't being effective. Lobbyist main goal is to support and aid the average citizen not help pass less regulatory water laws. I think the whole county is corrupted. The farmers and citizens main responsibility is to act now or else its going to damaging later on. If anyone has seen Eric Brokavich? That is my logic behind it. Everyone in that town has rights. I believe the farmers are abusing human rights by letting their cows contaminate children and the elderly. It horrid how people to this day believe that a little toxic is no big deal. But it is BIG DEAL!!!

Homework Time

I dislike doing homework but it's going to be good at the end.
